一场车祸夺去了两个动物学家兄弟的妻子，随后，他们一边迷恋着那个在车祸中失去一条腿的女人，一边用摄影机记录各种动物尸体腐烂的过程。在影片静态的画面中，那些鳄鱼、小狗、天鹅、斑马的尸体一点点地变黑、干瘪、喷出腐水、爬出蛆虫。最终，女人那条剩下的腿也;渐渐死去、被截除，她在生下一对属于两兄弟的双胞胎之后死去。两兄弟则在镜头前注射毒剂，把自己的尸体作为最后一种研究和展示对象。
