　　一幢待售的房子，交到了年轻的女房产经纪莉手上，她在房里发现了一个精神有些异样的女孩，她以为那是前任房主离家出走的女儿，便想伸出援手，谁知女孩似乎被一种超自然的力量控制，莉和她的艺术家姐姐薇拉，都难逃她的魔掌…

　　20世纪80年代初，站街流莺辛蒂（瓦妮莎·哈金斯 Vanessa Hudgens 饰）险些遭人杀害。与此同时，在阿拉斯加一处荒凉所在，一名女性尸体被人发现。警官杰克·海尔康伯（尼古拉斯·凯奇 Nicolas Cage 饰）从辛蒂处了解到，凶手手段残暴无情，并且可能是个连环杀手。由于背负着不堪回首的过去，杰克一方面决定保护这个侥幸从死神手中逃脱的女孩，另一方面将目标锁定在曾在70年代有过前科的男子罗伯特·汉森（约翰·库萨克 John Cusack 饰）身上。罗伯特道貌岸然，不动声色继续着他的猎杀活动，当他意外再度出现在辛蒂面前时，正邪双方的对决即将到了关键时刻……　　本片根据真实事件改编。
